Param Pujya Aghoreshwar Avdhoot Bhagwan Ram Ji

Param Pujya Aghoreshwar Avdhoot Bhagwan Ram Ji was born in a Kshatriya clan in a village named Gundi under Arrah (Bhojpur) district of Bihar province. Aghoreshwar Mahaprabhu's parents were very religious. Having had no child for many years, his parents were engrossed in the worship of Lord Shiva — his father Babu Baijnath Singh ji would rise at four each morning, bathe in the Ganga, and worship Lord Shiva for hours. One morning on the banks of the Ganga, his father had the darshan of a divine Mahatma, bowed down to him, narrated his agony, and begged for a son; the Mahatma granted the blessing before continuing to his Ganga bath. Some days later his mother had a vision of Lord Shiva in a dream, in which Lord Shiva granted the boon of taking birth from her womb. In time, he was born — a prodigious child; immediately after birth he sat up in the cradle with a light burning in his face, frightening the women helping in the delivery, though his mother knew that Bholenath himself had taken birth in her house. His father passed away in his childhood, and he was brought up under the care of his mother and grandfather, who named him Bhagwan Singh — later known as Bhagwan Das, and later still as Balak Aghoreshwar Bhagwan Ram.

From childhood, the fame of his divine qualities and miracles reached far and wide; when he touched a sick person, their disease used to go away. At the age of seven he left home and started on the path of spiritual practice. After receiving initiation from the most respected Baba Rajeshwar Ram ji at the world's oldest Aghor Peeth — Krin Kund, Baba Keenaram Sthal, Bhadeni, Assi Ghat, Varanasi — he became engrossed in Aghor Sadhna, remaining so for many years in the crematoriums, hills and forests of Vindhyachal on the banks of the Ganga, earning immense spiritual power. On 21 September 1961 he established an organization named Shri Sarveshwari Group at Rajghat, Padav, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, with the aim of serving the poor, helpless, afflicted and weak. Avdhoot Bhagwan Ram Kushtha Seva Ashram, run by this institution, completely cured and rehabilitated about two and a half lakh leprosy patients over a period of 30 years from 1961 to 1990 — an achievement in service to humanity recorded by the Guinness Book of World Records.

He opposed social evils in society. Opposing the dowry system, he helped lakhs of poor girls marry without dowry. Rising above caste and creed, he taught that humanity is the biggest human religion, spreading the message of unity, brotherhood and mutual love, and guided many important works for the bright future of children and the upliftment, respect and development of women.

The immense human service and public welfare work done by him was recognized and honored at the national and international level. On November 29, 1992, he left his mortal body and became Brahmalin. We all continue to feel blessed, as in the past, to receive the experience and guidance of his presence in our hearts.

Kings and Maharajas of the country and abroad, many Presidents of India, Prime Ministers, Supreme Court and High Court Justices, jurists, educationists, politicians, officials, as well as a large number of poor people, were his strong followers — many of whom continue to follow the path he showed, moving towards the goal of human service and public welfare.
